Objectives
Events in Himachal, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra over the last few years involving paragliding accidents had forced the state Govts/courts/local police to move towards banning the sport in the absence of a regulatory body.
This situation has threatened to kill the sport in its nascent stage. If we do not act now the day will not be long when even to inflate our gliders we will need to take permission from a govt. official, our air space will be severely restricted and in many places we wont even be allowed to fly and the sport will be eventually regulated by non pg pilots who do not understand the sport and in the end will make decisions detrimental to our community.
It gives us great pleasure to inform you that to counter this situation a few devoted pilots have got together to form " The Paragliding Federation of India" (PGFI)
We take great pleasure in inviting you to join this organization and play an active role in its evolution and contribute to achieve its objectives.
The main objectives of the Federation are:
1) To promote and facilitate the sport of paragliding in India
2) To represent the Indian paragliding community in the world and to provide a common platform for the various associations, paragliding schools/clubs and paragliding pilots of India.
3) To provide guide lines and set standards as regards to all aspects of paragliding , including but not limited to, pilot and instructor training standards, technical support such as airworthiness standards etc.
4) To work towards enhancing safety and facilitating insurance coverage for pilots, paragliding clubs and tandem passengers.
5) To provide various benefits to its membership, which include but are not limited to:
a) A pilot rating program.
b) A structured instructor certification program.
c) A training structure for tandem flight and aero towing.
d) Local club affiliation for the benefit of negotiated site insurance coverage.
e) A national magazine for flying, product and safety information. f) Third party and participant liability insurance coverage for members.
6) To secure and protect the airspace available to paragliding pilots in India.
7) To secure exemptions from the Govt. for various tax/custom duties charged on paragliding equipment and accessories. The structure of the organization is designed to be absolutely democratic, to give a fair representation to all pilots from the entire nation and enable the governing body to be able to run the organization in perpetually and replace itself by conducting free and fair elections at fixed intervals.
PGFI Structure
PGFI is an organization registered under the Societies act 1860
A copy of the Memorandum of articles of PGFI can be availed from the Charity commissioner’s office at Pune by making a simple application with a fee of Rs. 5/- only. It is a public document.
A standard format of the Memorandum of articles as drafted by the lawyer was adopted for registering the organization. This provides the basic framework. The structure of PGFI will be evolved by its members by adopting resolutions after going through a series of discussions, debates and criticism. Hence we invite all pilots to come forward and take membership of PGFI and play an active role in its design and development.
The current organizing committee will be in operation till a newly elected organizing committee takes over. Till then the organizing committee can be modified with mutual consensus. Those pilots who wish to be a part of the organizing committee should become members of PGFI and coordinate their efforts with the existing committee.
